Empowerment of women remains high on the EU’s global agenda, with European Commissioner for External Relations and Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner reiterating the EU’s commitment to fight for equality, according to a Commission press release.Marking International Women’s Day on March 8, she said: “I am well aware that the full empowerment of women is still a distant call for many women around the world… We cannot step down our game until each and every woman’s rights are respected and protected throughout the world.” The Commissioner underlined the need “to invest in the future by involving children in the process and raising their awareness on gender equality issues.”
